In the past few decades, consumers around the world have increasingly been concerned about their health and prefer products that enhance wellness. Consequently, nutritious food and food safety play a vital role in the global food market.
In Thailand, the food industry is one of the key strategic growth priorities according to the current national development plan and the vision to be the “Kitchen of The World”. In response to the fast-growing global demands, Thai entrepreneurs have been developing themselves to become key manufacturers and exporters by creating innovative food products to promote people’s well-being, and integrating expertise and knowledge from market research and advanced food technologies.
In response to this increased interest, DuPont Thailand recently hosted the Thailand Food Innovation Forum at the DuPont Thailand Innovation Center. The goal of the Forum was to foster stakeholder collaboration to increase food and nutrition security in Thailand by examining key challenges of food innovation for health and wellness.
The Forum was chaired by speakers from various public and private organizations including Thailand Food and Drug Administration, Thai National Food Commission, National Food Institute, Betagro Group, and DuPont Thailand. Discussions covered topics such as opportunities and challenges of healthy and nutritious food innovation, consumer insights, and current and future trends of the food industry in Thailand. Over 100 food professionals and key government officials attended the interactive sessions.
“The world’s fast-growing population brings diverse challenges, with a part of the world facing the health challenges of too much food, while parts of the world population are still undernourished, and the rise of a middle-class in newly developed countries,” said Somchai Laohverapanich, DuPont Thailand managing director. “Thailand needs to focus more on value added food products in the future, which will require increased R&D investment among private and public sectors.”
Somchai commented that DuPont works in close collaboration with customers to find new and better ways to solve food and nutrition challenges. “Through DuPont Thailand Innovation Center, we are able to help connect our local customers to DuPont global research and development capabilities in developing food solutions to address consumer needs.
